Check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans that avoid obstacles like furniture legs. The robots also come with the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be changed for an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum cleaners best vacuum/mop that could complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It did a decent cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot cleaner with mop vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home must be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. If you have lots of furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot cleaner vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
