Some models can also automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Similar to other iRobots that are premium (including the top model) they utilize smart mapping to produce precise floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our bare floor tests They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal particularly if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with a wet one in seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensor technology that can avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models This mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should satisfy most people.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the best automatic vacuum and mop's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also comes with an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have lots of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also gives access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other best rated robot vacuum vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
