With a thumb nail, or a small screwdriver with a flat-headed head (A) and pull upwards the key fob battery compartment cover (B). Replace the CR2025 battery, ensuring it is inserted in the proper direction.

Dead Coin Battery

A dead battery for a coin is the most common reason of a key fob that isn't locking or unlocking your car. It usually shows symptoms before it dies such as a decreased range or no power at any time. It is simple to replace it with a new (CR2025) one at your local grocery store. Be aware that faulty or defective batteries could cause damage to the key fob. Make sure that the battery you purchase is identical in size, specifications and voltage as your old one.

If your device was exposed to clean water, like rain or soapy tap water it is likely that the electronic chip inside has been damaged due to corrosion. You can clean the chip with isopropyl or electronic cleaners to determine if that can help, but the chip is damaged.

A new key fob is the most straightforward solution. They are available from most major car dealers and are installed by a qualified mechanic. They can also be purchased online from places like ebay. It is best to work on a surface with adequate lighting. It is easier to work with small pieces. This will also help you to avoid putting something back in the wrong location. Always work on the key fob in a secured and safe place.

Water Damage

If your fob's key gets submerged after dropping it into the pool or throwing it in the washing machine you might think it's over, but there's a chance. When the circuit board on the fob is exposed to water, it turns into conductor that shorts the components. It also speeds up corrosion and rust.

Luckily, this is simple to fix. Find something absorbent and put it inside the fob - a paper towl or tissue works well. Use a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl to cleanse the circuit board, and any other components. Let the circuit board dry for several days in a dry and warm environment.

Replace the battery when the fob has dried out with a fresh one with the same size and polarity ('+' (pointing upwards). It can be difficult to open the fob in order to access the battery, however if you have a small screwdriver that is flat at hand, it will slide in easily. Once the fob is assembled, it should work like normal. If it doesn't work, you may have to re-program it or replace the module.

Radio Interference

If a key-fob is functioning properly, it emits a radio frequency signal that is received by the module in your seat car key replacement. However, if the signal is disrupted in any way the key fob will not function properly. This can be caused by objects or weather conditions, or other transmitters operating at the same frequency as your vehicle.

This could cause your key fob to not be able to activate the vehicle's features such as the ignition switch, or the security system. It is recommended to replace your key fob's battery.

Some LED lighting aftermarket that utilizes the same frequency as key fobs for remote control can interfere with the signal, stopping it from reaching receiver modules. To avoid interference, the LED light must be turned off or to an alternative frequency.

If you have a new battery in your key fob and the problem persists, it's possible that the antenna on the key fob is damaged or not functioning properly. This is important since the antenna is responsible for sending a signal from the key fob to the receiver module. An OBDII scan can help diagnose the problem by revealing exactly what's wrong with your system. The scanner will request details about your particular vehicle including the model and make along with the engine type and VIN number.

Faulty Receiver Module

The key fob is equipped with a receiver module that transmits the signals needed to lock and unlock. If this module develops a fault then all the on-board electronics will stop working. Reprogramming the key fob with an OBDII scan, or replacing it can help.

There are a variety of possible causes that could be the cause, such as an empty coin battery, water damage or signal interference. You can reset the on-board computer if you disconnect the 12 volt batteries for 15 minutes. This will eliminate any remaining power that may be causing issues. The cable should be removed first from the negative terminal, then the positive terminal. After 15 minutes, connect the battery in reverse order beginning with positive first, and negative second.

Water or dirt can also harm the internal chip of the key fob. If your key fob stopped working after getting wet, wipe it with isopropyl, or an electronics cleaner. Then, you can reinstall the battery. If it stopped working after exposure to soapy or salty water, the chip is probably damaged and needs to be replaced.

A defective antenna module fuse could be a cause. It's the fuse that sends an alert to the vehicle to lock or unlock. The fuse could be found in various places, based on the model. For example it could be beneath the rear seat Mii replacement key or trunk, or the side of the dashboard.Porsche-New-2023.png
