We consulted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her advice on how to choose the right one. They considered storage capacity, layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, the GE Profile series is targeted at consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge features into their kitchen. This refrigerator has it all, from the Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This fridge is expensive and I expected more.

This refrigerator is a good choice, despite the small blip. It features a large freezer compartment, which is unusual for counter-depth French-door refrigerators. It also holds a lot of frozen food compared to other models.

The fridge has 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on what you would expect from a French door fridge costing this much. It also has a decent-sized icemaker packed into the left door, though it's not the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to make the perfect storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is attractive. The LED lighting is a nice feature and the inside storage bins have an additional shelf that can fold down to allow you to store large items. The drawers have temperature controls so you can set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their textured plastic coatings to be a little rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a all the features you'd expect from a fridge at this price that includes Wi-Fi as well as app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and allows you to control your refrigerator from anywhere around the world. It also has numerous options for customizing. It will also send notifications when the door is unlocked, when the freezer or fridge requires defrosting, and when the filter has to be changed.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS had Precise Fill, an option available in other GE refrigerators that allows you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to pour out at once. It does have an indicator on the fridge display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as useful as Precise fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Designed to look like a seamless part of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher for longer, and two compressors to preserve food. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and makes pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This fridge is perfect for a single family or a kitchenette with a built-in appearance and top-of-the best food preservation.

This fridge was rated the most efficient in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed by more than a fraction, this is essential to avoid freezer burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also did well. It reached the initial temperature within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, but offers great features and capabilities at a fair price.

While the fridge is an amazing appliance, it's important to know the limitations. It has a limited shelf space, which means you may need to be creative when storing tall items. The shelves are also not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. It's easy to remove the trays in the fridge However, be sure to clean them frequently to prevent mold growth.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage space into the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge has an ordinary French door design, and two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set crisper drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more room. There's also a full-width deli drawer and an internal water dispenser.

The refrigerator comes with an ice maker, making it easy to move the frozen ice as needed. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, too, like sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food and a separate one for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another awesome feature of the refrigerator. It allows you to manage the refrigerator's temperature, lighting, and more from your smartphone. It's a nice way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat but it doesn't improve the performance of the fridge. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator as compared to other fridges we tried. This is likely due to the greater capacity.

Another issue with the door of this refrigerator. They have sunken handles at the front, which allows shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, but they're difficult for taller people to steer closed without slamming the doors. It would have been better to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a excellent option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door refrigerator's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also less expensive than the most expensive counter depth refrigerator that comes with an ice maker, making it an attractive choice.

It's a basic fridge that might not be as attractive as its rivals, but it still has enough features to make a suitable option. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

The "Chill Drawer", which is situated over the two crisper bins, is another excellent feature. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer to get more precise readings of your fridge's temperature.

The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's outside is made of stainless steel with a grey body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does an excellent job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared to the glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
