Sey Coffee

Sey Coffee, a coffee roaster and shop, is located along Grattan Street, in Morgantown. This neighborhood, located in Brooklyn's Bushwick district is located on Grattan Street. Tobin Polk, Lance Schnorenberg and their co-founders of 33 years, began roasting coffee in a loft on the fourth floor, just across the street in 2011. The name was Lofted Coffee. Local clients included Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart services Peddler and Peddler.

Sey's decision to buy micro-lots or whole harvests from single farmers has earned it the acclaim of New York City coffee enthusiasts. In the past they made a six-bag micro-lot purchase of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai 785 from Brazil's Espirito Santo region. The beans were picked when they were ripe and then steamed to eliminate any defects. They were then dried on the farm following a 36-hour dry fermentation. The result is a coffee with hints of berry and melon.

Sey's commitment goes beyond its shop to improve the overall well-being of employees and growers as well as customers. It utilizes composts and biodegradable disposables to keep waste from the garbage dumps. This helps to reduce greenhouse gases as well as nourish the soil. It also eliminates gratuity, which puts baristas in a position to provide their livelihoods and inspire them to focus on their profession.
