ADD and Treatment

ADD and treatment for adhd in adults is usually connected to problems at school, home or at work. The psychiatric illness can be difficult to diagnose and treat.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most popular name used for this psychiatric condition. Mental health professionals utilize brain imaging using SPECT to determine ADHD.

The symptoms include being easily distracted, forgetful, and unorganized. Antidepressants and stimulants can help.

Limbic ADD

The most common form of ADD, also known as classic ADD or hyperactive-impulsive ADD, is characterized by inattention, a lack of organizational skills, difficulty staying on task, and trouble with memory. Brain scans show that people suffering from this type are able to maintain normal activity while concentrating and at rest in the prefrontal cortex, however, they have less activity in their cerebellum and the basal ganglia. These areas are responsible for the production of dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter that is responsible for motivation, calmness and focus. People with this type have a hard in shifting their focus and are easily distracted by noise and other stimuli, and have a short attention span. They also have difficulty falling asleep and often wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety or nightmares. They are easily frustrated and often get angry.

People suffering from Ring of Fire ADD have all the symptoms of the classic ADD however, they also have trouble shifting their attention from thought to thought and from task to task. They are sensitive to noise, light, and touch; they talk too quickly and are impulsive, and easily provoked into mean behaviour. They are prone to moodiness, low energy and anger. They are also prone to getting stuck in negative thoughts and guilt feelings.

Limbic ADD can be mistaken for depression, but it's distinct from depression in that it causes increased activity in the limbic region of the brain (the area that sets our emotional tone and regulates how happy or sad we are) and decreases activity in the prefrontal cortex at both when we are at rest and while in concentration. It can be treated with supplements such as L tryptophan (5-HTP) along with saffron, inositol, which improve alertness, mood and clarity. Amino acid GABA can also help calm neural activity, inhibiting nerve cells from firing erratically or excessively.

It is crucial to differentiate between ADD and mood disorders such as Bipolar Disorder, which can trigger irritability, anger, and poor self-esteem. The main difference between ADD with Limbic Symptoms and Bipolar Disorder is that ADD has a more consistent level of irritability that lasts over time. Bipolar Disorder tends to have symptoms that come in waves.

Overfocused ADD

Overfocused ADD patients tend to get caught up in negative thoughts and behavior that result in excessive worry. This is due to rigid behavior that is similar to those who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). These individuals often become threatened emotionally when required to shift their focus from one thing to another, and can respond with an argumentative or hostile behavior.

They tend to be irritable and their irritability What Can Untreated Adhd Lead To be caused by a low-grade chronic depression or sadness. They may also have trouble learning, have memory issues, or experience severe anger and aggression.

People who have hyper-focused ADD are not flexible when they have to change tasks, and can be captivated by their work or interests. They are at risk of missing deadlines at work, and not remembering appointments at home, and may not complete homework or other school assignments. They could also be stubborn and resentful when they are punished by their parents or teachers.

Children with hyper-focused ADD exhibit a high level of irritability and stubbornness and may be susceptible to throwing a rage when their interests are trampled on. They may be obsessed with specific activities, toys, and video games. They also have difficulty expressing their feelings, and can be extremely sensitive to criticism or rejection.

This kind of ADD is difficult to diagnose, especially when it affects children. The majority of children don't understand that their problem is caused by their inability shift their focus between different things. This is why it's important to seek the help of a professional, as children with this type of behavior are more likely to be misdiagnosed by family doctors and even psychologists. This type of ADD can be treated with diet modifications, supplements, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Medications are sometimes prescribed, but this type of ADD is difficult to treat with stimulant drugs, since they can increase a person's level of hyperactivity. Functional neuroimaging is sometimes used to distinguish the seven distinct types of ADD, and is particularly useful in diagnosing over-focused ADD.

Anxious ADD

Many people suffering from ADD have high levels of anxiety. This comorbidity (having more than one disorder simultaneously) is common and affects the majority of people with ADD/adhd treatment adults. Stress and anxiety may mimic the symptoms of ADD/ADHD. Misdiagnosis may cause inappropriate treatment and anger.

Anxious ADD may cause problems at work, at school or in social situations. This type of ADD can cause underperformance and feelings of being unsatisfactory. People with anxious ADD tend to avoid challenging tasks and events, believing they'll fail.

They are also afraid of being judged and critiqued. This is why they often hide their problems from their peers. In some cases, these sufferers are so stressed and anxious that they experience panic attacks. These panic attacks can be extremely severe and life-threatening. They cause an increase in heart rate sweating, breathing difficulties and difficulty. Anxious ADD is different from Classic ADD because it has an increased activity in the basal ganglia as well as the amygdala. These areas are instinctive and prioritize security. This can shut down PFC and can make it difficult for these individuals concentrate.

If a person with ADD/adhd treatment without meds has anxiety, their symptoms are usually more difficult to manage than those of a person who doesn't have anxiety. This is due to the treatment programs for ADD/ADHD that are designed to stimulate brain activity, can actually increase anxiety among people with anxious ADD.

Amen Clinic psychiatrists utilize functional neuroimaging, such as SPECT scans in order to determine which areas of the brain have low and/or higher levels of activity are occurring. This helps them differentiate between the seven different types of ADD and determine the best treatment for each patient.

A psychiatrist will take an entire medical record and perform a physical examination to determine if the patient suffers from ADHD or ADD. Additionally, he or will ask questions about behavior and mood to determine the patient's overall performance. Sometimes, medications are used to treat ADD/ADHD. However, in the majority of cases patients also need other therapies, such as cognitive behavior therapy, exercise, nutrition, sleep strategies and desensitization. This may enhance their ability to control their moods and overall performance.

Temporal Lobe ADD

This kind of ADD involves the brain's temporal lobe, which is responsible for memory and mood. This type of ADD is characterised by a problem learning and keeping information in memory and mood swings, as well as severe anger or aggression issues. They may also suffer from sensory issues such as feeling like they're in a dream and seeing shadows or objects change shape, or hearing sounds that others don't hear. They can be extremely sensitive and irritable, and often become overstimulated by certain activities, such as computer screens or crowds.

This kind of ADD has the same symptoms as Classic ADD. These include low attention spans and disorganization. It also has difficulty in staying focused or following instructions. However, this kind of ADD does not cause impulsivity or hyperactivity. This type of ADD is more common in women. This kind of ADD is characterized by low levels of dopamine in the brain, which can result in feelings of low motivation or a lack of self-regulation. The symptoms can include sleep problems and feelings of anxiety or irritability.

In this case QEEG scans of the ADD brain reveal that people with Overfocused ADD are experiencing difficulties shifting gears. They show normal activity in the anterior cingulate gyrus (the brain's "gearshifter"). They are unable to shift from one task or thought to the next, and they get stuck in negative thought patterns and behaviors.

This is a form of ADD in which people are extremely motivated and productive but tend not to concentrate on their tasks. They can get lost in their school work and their teachers or parents can become tired or embarrassed by their behavior. They may have a difficult relationship because they are hyper-active or reactive, and have a hard time dealing with multitasking or working with other people. In some cases they may suffer from depression or anxiety. They might be susceptible to panic attacks and hallucinations. Medications are not usually recommended for this type of ADD as they don't address the root cause of the symptoms.Royal_College_of_Psychiatrists_logo.png
