Robots that mop and vacuum offer the convenience of cleaning dry debris (dust dirt, grit) and wet messes (spills and stains) in one go without having to swap out devices. They can also save space compared to two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot will have excellent navigation and obstacle avoidance. Look for models that have docks that let them automatically empty their bins, refill their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It's one of the easiest robots to set up that we've tested. Unpacking is simple and the quick-start guide gets you up and running in no time. It comes with an entire dust bag, water tank, and hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is an incredibly powerful machine that can vacuum and mop well. The mops are spun at a high speed and utilize 2.2 pounds (1kg of force) to quickly remove dirt, pet hair and sticky dried spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, as well as a selection of brushes and attachments, and an intuitive app that lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like for each room.

For example, you can choose to have the robot do a deep clean in the living and kitchen but go easy on the spare bedroom. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and smart navigation technology are excellent too and the robot is capable of detecting small obstacles that other models struggle with. Its only issue is that the robot is known to smash into walls and objects at a high speed. However looking at the history of cleaning in the app will reveal exactly what the robot hoover has accomplished, where it's going, and which obstacles it has stumbled upon or avoided.

The docking station features an LCD display that indicates the time when maintenance is required like emptying the debris and cleaning the water tank that is dirty. It's also capable of mixing detergent automatically into the water tank by using a 600ml bottle filled with the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum come with a long-running time. The mop is able to run for 184 mins in Quiet Mode and the autonomous vacuum can last 136 mins in normal mode, prior to having to recharge or returning to the base. The app is easy to use and intuitive that lets you view all the details of the cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, the most recent version of Roborock's flagship robot mop and vacuum, is the newest version. This year's model has an agitator that doubles as its mopping pad. This improves the carpet cleaning capabilities of this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction capacity that enables it to remove smaller hairs and other particles other robotic cleaners might miss.

The Roborock model, like the other two models I tested, has infrared and reactive 3D obstacle avoidance technology that helps it get around obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further by incorporating two cameras that can recognize objects, and determine if they're walls or other surfaces. It is able to change its path in a way that is automatic and clean around them, without missing a step.

It's the most expensive of the three models I've reviewed, but it's also the most packed with features. Its sleek, angular design is attractive and it has just three physical buttons: the power button, which also resumes cleaning; a mop-only switch that doubles as a child lock; and a home button to bring the robot back to its dock. Lifting the hinged lid, you will find the 350ml dust bin as well as a 200ml water tank. The water tank self-empties and the bin auto-filling.

The only downside I've discovered with this model is that its VibraRise mop pad mount isn't movable. While you can replace the mopping cloth (if it's required) but it's a challenge to take off the mount itself to wash manually. I've observed that any soft carpet the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro-like fastener mechanism on the mount, which could cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features that include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these via the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app allows you to schedule cleanings and monitor the life of batteries and maintenance on components. But you'll need to jump through a few hoops in order to enable voice control with this model, which is a shame considering the performance of this model.

3. Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 is an industry-leading robot vacuum and mop equipped with outstanding suction power, advanced mowing capabilities, and innovative features. Its clever design permits customized and efficient cleaning while reducing time.

The X40 robot vacuum cleaner is the first one to provide 12,000 Pascals cleaning power. It is one of the most powerful options available. This powerful vacuum removes the dry mess, which includes pet hair and dust. It also has a high-quality mop that leaves hard floors sparkling clean, even without a wet pad. The X40 is also very quiet in operation and only occasionally bursting during modes changes or self-maintenance.

Another standout feature is the X40's extendable and liftable side brushes, which allows it to get into hard-to-reach corners and intimately clean furniture, such as tables and chairs' legs. It also allows the robot vacuum that mops to access furniture that is low-profile making it an ideal choice for small apartments and condos with limited space. The side brush also automatically tilts down when detecting wet spots, which is a nice addition that helps the X40 to avoid causing damage to floors by the frequent back-and-forth movement.

In contrast to other robots that only focus on one task, the X40 can do mopping and vacuuming simultaneously or individually. It can be programmed to only mop the hard floors and skip carpeted areas, or reverse the process. It can be controlled using the Dreame App or Alexa, Siri, or Google Home to ensure smooth voice-controlled operations.

The app is simple to use and intuitive and the X40 has many smart features that are simple to configure. Users can program the X40 to clean at certain times. It is also possible to alter suction power, alter modes, look at floor plans and maps and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also keep track of its progress, and alert you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to clean and has numerous convenient features, making it a great choice for busy families. The docking station automatically cleans the dustbin and mop pads before refilling them with fresh cleaning solution and water. It can also detect when the mop pad is overflowing and alert you before it overflows, thus reducing the necessity for manual maintenance.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models on the market. It does have several characteristics that make it stand out. Its mops have a new feature called Smart DuoScrub. It uses two high-speed mops to clean floors more thoroughly than the standard method, and has a high maximum suction power of 7,000Pa. This is higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra and Ecovacs Deebots T20 Omni. It can also clean pet hair, dirt particles, and clean up spills and soiled spots.

The mops are cleaned and dried in the base station each time they are used. This is beneficial because it prevents mould and unpleasant odours from building up in the storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. It's a system that we've yet to see on other robot vacuum and mop models and it could be a great method to keep your home cleaner for longer.

There are a lot of options, including the option to schedule cleaning times and adjust preferences. The app allows you to set these preferences or you can make use of the buttons on the device itself. The app is easy to use and provides a variety of options to customize the cleaning process, and there are many features that other robots don't include, for instance, the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power whenever it detects dust particles instead of relying on the manual setting.

The L20 Ultra is also one of the most elegant robots we've seen in the market, with metallic and white design that looks classy and sophisticated. It's a little heavier than the other two-in-1 robots on this list, at 4kg - but it's not obscenely heavy, and it is sturdy and well-built. The mopping design is also excellent and the double-rotating mop works well on hard floors and in corners. They can even extend to 2mm baseboards thanks to the MopExtend feature, which is a nice addition.
