These modern pod machines not only provide a delicious cup of coffee, but they also solve the issue of the environmental impact of single-serve pods made of plastic. Keurig and Nespresso made their aluminum pods recyclable by replacing them with polypropylene. The latter provides free capsule recycling bags that can dropped off at any store or UPS store. A competitor that was recently launched, Bruvi, uses its own pods that can be used in its own brewer. The pods are designed to be able to break down quickly in landfills, without leaving any microplastics behind.

While the Bruvi brewer costs more than Keurig or Nespresso but it is a fantastic device all around that is like the beginning of a new era in pod coffee.

One of the biggest things to think about when purchasing a coffee maker is serving size. Some models can sling single-serve cups in a broad variety of sizes, from giant travel mugs down to 2-ounce espresso shots. Certain machines can brew entire pots of coffee. Some models even come with milk frothers that can be added to create an incredibly creamy cappuccino or Latte.

The design of a coffee pod machine is a further factor to take into consideration. The color, the finish and location of the machine, as along with the size and position of the reservoir will determine how it appears on your counter. Some brands also offer different colored pods, which allows you to change your drink to suit the season or your mood.

This is the best value coffee machine-looking coffee pod machine we've seen and has a great tasting brew, particularly for an automatic. We didn't award this machine the top spot due to the fact that it's limited in its ability to milk froth. The only option is to use dried skimmed milk capsules that aren't as delicious as freshly squeezed milk. If it included a built-in milk froth then we'd be inclined to give this machine the top spot.
