A programmable sleep function is another feature that's a plus. It will switch to standby mode after an hour without use. It's also easy to clean and uses very little water. You might want to consider a machine that has the option of a capsule holder that is removable to make emptying the capsule easier.
You can also include a milk frother in your coffee pod (unless one is already included in the model you buy). You may also want to think about a reusable coffee filter that can be used with capsules that can be reused. A thermometer or water kettle to control temperature precisely is a great option.
2. Easy to Clean
A coffee pod machine is a great method to start your day with a hot cup of coffee. In just a few seconds you'll be enjoying a freshly-brewed drink. Just put a pod in and switch it on. These machines are also easy to clean, and most of them don't require regular maintenance -- simply refilling the water tank and descaling every six months or as often.
Keurig's K-Cups offer the largest selection of choices available including national brands and supermarket favorites such as Folgers, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Dunkin' Donuts. There are even some alternatives to coffee, such as hot cocoa and tea available in K-Cups from various brands. However, you don't have to use Keurig's K-Cups to make a great cup of coffee. However, many of these pod-based machines don't have the reputation of producing an intense, rich cup that can stand up to the discerning palate. In our tests, we discovered that a few pod coffee makers produced watery or overly bitter cups of joe. Some were difficult to use as they took up valuable counter space, and also running very loudly.
There are high-end coffee makers that have the convenience and consistency of single-serve machines, without the flimsy packaging and sour taste. Some have a built-in milk frother for frothing and pouring your cappuccino or latte while others sell an additional frother that which can be connected to the machine to create a deliciously foamy top to your drinks.

Both Keurig and Nespresso have made their aluminum pods recyclable by replacing them with polypropylene, and the latter is now offering free capsule recycling bags that can be picked up at any of its stores or UPS stores. A recently launched competitor, Bruvi, uses its own pods that can only be used in its own brewer and are designed to disintegrate quickly in landfills and without leaving microplastics behind.

A pod coffee machine can be a lifesaver for people who don't wish grind beans or boil kettles. These nifty devices let you brew your cup of coffee, espresso or tea in just minutes with no clean up. They produce more waste than drip-style counterparts, but they are still much easier to use than making whole beans in a French Press or Pour-Over.
In the late 2022's an LA-based company known as Bruvi introduced its BV-01 coffee pod machine. It promised to produce superior single serve coffee that tastes better and provide more drink options than the many other pod-based machine and deliver recyclable capsules that could be thrown out without breaking down into tiny microplastics. Although the Bruvi brewer is more than Keurig or Nespresso but it is a great device all around that feels like a dawning of a new era in pod coffee.
When you are buying a coffee pod machine the size of the serving is a key aspect to take into consideration. Certain models allow single-serve cups that come in a wide variety of sizes, from giant travel mugs down to 2-ounce espresso shots. Some machines can make whole pots of coffee. Some models even come with milk frothers to make the creamy cappuccino, latte or Latte.
Another factor to take into consideration is the design of a pod coffee maker. The color and the finish of the machine along with the placement and size of the reservoir and pod compartment will impact the appearance of your machine on your kitchen counter. This model is more expensive than some of the other models we've reviewed, but it offers a premium experience. The drip tray can be adjusted so that it fits either tall travel mugs or shorter espresso cups. It can make up to five different drinks thanks to a barcode system which scans every compatible pod to automatically adjust its settings.
This is the best cappuccino machine-looking machine we have tested. It also makes a great tasting brew - especially for an automatic. The only reason we didn't give it the top spot is because of its limited milk-frothing capabilities - the only option is to use dried skimmed milk capsules which don't taste like fresh-squeezed milk. If it had a built-in milk frother then we'd consider this pod machine to be the top spot.
