Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and essential way to boost the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of additional damage, more AD or even more attachments.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to upgraded Common or Magic equipment because of their high requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They improve the stats of the item upgrader that they're attached to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. Alternatively, they can also be salvaged from items with upgrade components in them with a professional or higher salvage kit.

The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it is able to take on. The damage absorption of a piece armor will increase as it is upgraded to the highest upgrade level. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it should be heavier.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Some upgrades give armor a greater amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The type of armor upgrade that an item level upgrade can receive is indicated by the name of the upgrade, as shown in the table below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which are shown by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For example an upgrade could increase the damage dealt by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of the rifle sniper. Some weapons also have special upgrades that improve their innate characteristics. Jewels

The Jeweler is able to create all tiers of gems, apart from the rare and legendary ones, which require certain levels to gain. Jewels can be replaced with another one without damaging the original. However, you can only replace the jewels in a piece of equipment once.

It is normal to use more gems for aesthetic reasons. Jewels also enhance performance and make a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These glyphs give a slight boost and can be freely swapped, but they are not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs, just like jewelry, can be upgraded by the Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Crystals. Glyphs can also be removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis cannot be exchanged, and can only be retrieved through an upgrade extractor or salvaging using Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide an array of small but useful advantages to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and through performing road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket that a player will be able to unlock is the cloak. It gives a small but beneficial boost in movement speed and evasion. After that, they'll be able to purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player acquires armor and weapons. Each piece of equipment has an upgrade slot that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer fewer benefits and can be used in any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be changed or upgraded, and is only compatible with certain kinds of trinkets.
