Robot vacuum cleaners are ideal for those who don't like to make your hands messy. They are more efficient than manual vacuum cleaners and are ideal for single-storey homes and flats.
Smart features are a bonus. This includes mapping technology that will remember the design of your house as well as avoiding furniture and carpets, and getting into those nipples underneath low furniture that larger robots have to struggle to reach.
iRobot Roomba j7+
The iRobot Roomba J7+, an upgrade over the previous model made by the company, adds new technology that makes it more effective in preventing pet waste. It uses smart navigation and mapping to create maps of floors and rooms and is able to navigate around obstacles such as charging cords, furniture and shoes. It can also detect dirt and prioritize cleaning areas that are heavily filthy. This is a major improvement over older models which sometimes ignored the dirtiest spots or cleaned them for only an insignificant amount of time.
The robot vacuum comes with a self-emptying base that can put dustbin debris into its own 2.4L dirt bag. The company claims that it can hold up to 60 days worth of debris and means you only have to empty and change the bag once every three months. The base station can also be used to store an extra bag for quick replacements.
It's easy to set up and use the Roomba device, which is compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and is fully controlled through the iRobot Genius app. The app allows you to choose when to start and stop the cleaning, how it should take to complete the task at hand, and create a schedule.
During our testing during our testing, the iRobot Roomba J7+ cleaned flooring and area rug surfaces in the family room, foyer and kitchen without issue. It listened to our commands and did its jobs quietly, registering just 64db on the decibel meter when it was in operation. It took approximately 90 minutes to complete one cleaning and its battery took one hour and 58 minutes to recharge afterward. The Combo J7 lets you extend your iRobot eco-system by pairing it with the iRobot Mop m6. One can run while the other flits around the room.
Dyson 360 Viz Nav
The Dyson 360 Viz Nav robot best automatic vacuum cleaner cleaner is a great choice for anyone living in a multi-floored house. This model can make maps for multiple floors and save them into the app. It's then simple to move between spaces without having to repeat the setup process. The robot can also be controlled by voice, with support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

It was unable to avoid the drying rack that was temporarily in place, which it kept trying to get under. It eventually got stuck and halted the cleaning process. It also struggled to evade some of the larger pieces of furniture such as chairs or tables. The Dyson 360 Vis Nav also isn't able to climb stairs which is a major issue for a lot of people who live in multi-story homes.
Roborock
Roborock robot vacuums are equipped with high-end features that make them stand out from the rest. Dual mops are available that spin and lift stains when pressing down. They also lift automatically when vacuuming carpets to prevent streaks of dirt from appearing and re-clogging vacuums with dirt. They have extreme suction of 5,500 Pa for outstanding dust and dirt removal. They also have smart water flow controls to make sure the proper amount of moisture is applied to each floor type.
Roborock's ability of mapping your entire home with laser technology is among its most impressive features. The LiDAR system in a Roborock robot is constantly rotating emitting laser beams and calculating the time they take to bounce back against surrounding objects. This information is then used to build a real-time map of your home layout which allows it to navigate with precision and avoid obstacles.
Based on the model you choose depending on the model you select, you can modify the map to include furniture placements, no-go zones and specific cleaning for your room. You can also select an option to clean only, mop only, or vacuum+mop, and schedule regular cleaning with an app-based cleaning cycle that allows you to set it and forget it.
Roborock offers a variety of options, from the budget-friendly S6 MaxV up to the premium S7 MaxV. All models feature advanced mapping capabilities, a long battery life, and a large capacity dustbin. The docking station offers many options, including charging and refilling the hot water tank. In the UK they also have a two-year warranty.
Beko RCV 5
The Beko RCV 5 may be an relative newcomer to the robotic vacuum and mopping industry however its sleek design and affordable cost have already made it a cult. This robot has some tricks to set it apart from other robotic vacuums, including self-emptying capabilities. It's easy to set-up and use using a simple application that allows you to alter the options.
The navigation system of this model utilizes sensors and mapping technology to navigate your home and does an excellent job of avoiding obstacles. The app allows you to alter the cleaning path so that specific areas can be cleaned more often. The app may be confusing at first but once you've learned how to use it, you'll be able to schedule cleanings and also manage the robot's power levels.
Despite its impressive list of features, the RCV 5 is not without its faults. It uses a small water tank that can only hold 240 ml at a given time. This is enough to do a basic clean-up, but not ideal for tough stains. In addition the wiping plate itself is quite basic and doesn't include an ability to rotate or vibrate.
The battery life of a robot at this price is not as long as one might think. The RCV 5's battery only lasts for about a third of a cleaning cycle. This isn't a dealbreaker but it's something to be considered when shopping for a new robot vacuum cleaner.
Karcher RCV 5
The German manufacturer Karcher is most famous for its pressure washers. However, it's now entering the robotic vacuum market with a model that both vacuums and mop. The RCV 5 offers an impressive range of features including excellent obstacle detection (with the dual laser system) and mapping that can be viewed in real-time using the smart app.
It also detects carpeted surfaces and activates wet mopping mode. The spot cleaning feature is also extremely beneficial. It can be programmed to repeat weekly. The RCV 5 is a reliable robot cleaner with a suction power of 2,500 pascals. It is able to clean both hard and soft flooring, and can reach into tight corners and under low furniture.
Karcher Home Robots is an application that runs on smartphones and, like other robots it is able to begin cleaning processes and make maps of your home. It is also possible to create virtual walls and zones which the RCV 5 can't drive, as well as a host of other control options.
One drawback to the RCV 5 is that its dust bin can only hold about a litre and will need regular emptying, in contrast to models that have integrated disposal technology integrated into their docking stations. It's also a touch heavier than other gadgets which makes it less portable and requiring more space to place in its charging station. The RCV 5 was rated highly by the testers for its user-friendliness and app control. It was a great performer in our tests, but some testers struggled to get its voice technology working effectively.
