Noah Pinsonnault is a product review analyst for the Home Care and Cleaning Lab at Good Housekeeping.
He reviews and tests cleaning appliances, focusing on mopping and robot vacuum combos. These multitaskers are a great option for those who wish to take mopping off their to-do list. They have impressive mapping and obstacles-avoiding capabilities, and some even wash and refill their mopping pads to give themselves a hands-off clean.
The Eufy S1 Pro
If you're looking for a robot vacuum that also mop, this is the model to look for. It's smaller than other models on this list, making it easier to navigate through tight corners and under furniture. It has a 220 degree Lidar which, when combined with the 3D Matrix Camera System, gives it one of my top navigation and object avoidance features I've seen in robot vacuums. It's got a battery of 4600mAh that can last for up to 170 minutes when mopping and sucking are set to standard mode. (It can run longer on turbo). It will even return to the dock to top up its battery halfway through a clean.
It's extremely efficient and does a great job of cleaning my two bedroom apartment. It vacuums carpeted areas extremely quickly, and hardwood floors in the kitchen, hallways, and living room in one go. Its 8,000pa motor is able to pick up dirt as well as pet hair and even droppings easily. Carpet detection increases power automatically when it encounters rugs and the dual side brushes help to tease away debris from corners.
The mopping performance, though still impressive, isn't as impressive. The mop rotates at a high speed and it pushes down with 2.2lbs of force, easily cleaning up dirt and stains. I've noticed that the front arm protrudes out a bit more than other robots. This is useful when you're trying to get into tight corners or along baseboards. Those same front arms can be employed to clean larger objects, such as broken toys and books.
The S1 Pro is also one of the quietest robot mops and vacuums I've used. It doesn't make the same amount of noise when mopping or vacuuming and is quieter than the Narwal Freo X Ultra or RoboRock S7. The only issue is that the S1 Pro must use a specific cleaning solution to perform its mopping function and is separate from the vacuum. It is easy to install and performs well. However should you purchase this robot vacuum to mop, you will need to be aware of this.
The Roborock Q Revo
The Q Revo is different from other robot vacuums in its class. It is equipped with a broad array of features that make it a great option for homeowners looking for an extremely efficient, flexible and adaptable cleaning machine.
The device is equipped with a powerful cleaning system that incorporates LiDAR sensor technology and an RGB camera. This allows it to map out the home and detect furniture and other obstacles. This information can be used to clean intelligently and efficiently. This ensures an even and thorough clean and is also fast.
In terms of mopping, Q Revo's DuoRoller mop pads can reach a wide range of surface areas. They can reach corners or baseboards, as well as other difficult-to-access spots. The side brush can be stretched out to reach the floor near to the walls and other fixtures. The mop pads can also be washable and dry to remove odors and prevent buildup.
Another notable feature is the customizable options available via apps. The Q Revo lets you alter the suction intensity and choose either a back-and-forth or a random pattern. You can also select the number of passes which determines how fast it can move around your home. You can also choose to disable the side brush to prevent damaging rugs and carpets.
The device has a expensive price, but comes with a large selection of innovative features. It's crucial to keep in mind that it has recurring costs in the form of mopping supplies and maintenance. For example the brushroll should be replaced every six to 12 months or after 300 hours. The filter will need to be cleaned after 150 hours, and the mop pad needs to be replaced every three to six months.
The robot vacuum that mops is rated highly on Amazon and offers a wide variety of physical automation features. These include an energy button that can also function as a general 'Clean' button and a 'Home' button that will send it back to its base station after completing its cleaning task. It also has a multifunctional dock that automatically empties the trash bin and refills its water tank to mop and washes and dry its mop pads.
The Shark Matrix Plus
If you're a busy professional or someone who just wants to have a clean home without spending hours doing chores then the Shark Matrix Plus is a good option. It's a top-performing device, intelligent navigation, and a long battery life that allows you to keep your home tidy with little effort.
The Matrix Plus is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum and mop, that is, it can do mopping and vacuuming. The robot is divided into two components, a dry bin and water tank that can be snapped out and in and a mopping unit that includes an elastomer pad. Separate modules for vacuuming and mopping may seem a bit old-fashioned, but they do mean you don't have to think about changing bags for disposables or refilling the water tank.
The Matrix Plus performed well at vacuuming and mopping. Its most impressive feature is its accurate floorplan map, which it employs when cleaning. This made it easy for the Matrix Plus to navigate around furniture rug, furniture and other obstacles. The app also offers the option of setting "No-Go zones" as well as virtual barriers that help to keep certain areas of your home from being scrubbed with mop.
We also found that the Matrix Plus did surprisingly well at picking up pet hair. It was able to collect an enormous amount of hair our cats shed, and even got into the nooks and crevices of our stairs, where other robots struggled. The noise levels of the robot were low and there were pleasant jingles to inform you that it was in the process of working towards its goal.
The app was too easy and you had to alter the modules each time you switched between vacuuming and mops. The app is not able to keep multiple maps. This can be a problem if your home has multiple floors. The Matrix Plus is a good option for those looking for a smart robot that is capable of vacuuming and mopping.
The Yiko X1 Omni
The X1 Omni robot vacuums best vacuum is the most expensive item in our review. However, it does have distinct features that make it worth considering. The X1 Omni's biggest draw is its huge dock that doubles as a charging base as well as housing for two 4 liter water tanks, a cleaning sink as well as the 2.5-liter dust bin that automatically emptys.
The base has a couple of buttons for control that allow you to manually start cleaning tasks, recall the robot or run the dock’s auto-emptying procedure. Press two of the buttons to switch on the child lock which is a great option for parents concerned about children playing with the vacuum.
Like other robotic vacuums the Omni Omni uses its camera to spot furniture and obstacles in its path, and then avoid them. Its True Mapping 2.0 navigation system can map your home 10 times faster than conventional laser detection systems and is four times more precise at finding objects.
The X1 can be prone to get stuck if it gets entangled in an obstacle like a power cable draped over a rug. It won't work until you manually untangle it. Although this is not a common occurrence however, it was a gruelling experience when it happened particularly since the X1 Omni does not come with a "stuck" status alert in its application.
Another possible issue is the X1 Omni's inability to automatically change between vacuuming and mopping modes during a cleaning session. You will need to manually switch between the two, which isn't an issue apart from the fact that mopping pads aren't cleaned and dried between use which could lead to mildew or mold.
On the bright side, the X1 Omni is a beautiful-looking robot vacuum reviews, thanks to the design team at Jacob Jensen (of Bang & Olufsen fame) who conceptualized its modern and sleek base as well as mopping pad apparatus. It's a significant change from the utilitarian all-black bases that are used by rivals like Roborock and iRobot, and a welcome sight in a space which is dominated by clunky boxy models.
