They're a little more expensive, yet they make the best coffee from any machine in our tests.

Pods or K-Cups

If you're shopping for a single coffee maker, you've probably heard the terms K-Cup and pods. But do you know the difference? This is an important distinction since some brands incorrectly use these terms interchangeably. Some even go so that they call their k-cups coffee pods, which can be confusing.

Both k-cups as well as coffee pods are excellent choices for one machine. The decision will be determined by personal preference and budget. Pods have several distinct advantages over k cups, beginning with their green properties. Because coffee pods are made of paper and are biodegradable, they're able to be recycled. They decompose quickly which makes them more sustainable than K-cups made of plastic.

Coffee pods come in a greater selection of flavors than K-cups. This might appeal to some people. In addition, coffee pods are priced less than k cups. This makes them a more attractive alternative for those with smaller budgets.

K-cups, which are small plastic cups, contain the tea grounds or coffee used to brew. The cup is sealed by the machine after it is inserted into the k-cup Brewer. The machine punctures the cup at its top and bottom to allow hot water to flow into the cup and to fill it with grounds. After the brew process is completed, the user is able to simply lift up the handle and the pod will automatically removed from a receptacle that is attached.

The main benefit of K-Cups is their convenience. They're easy to find and have a consistent taste and are a favorite among Keurig users. They're also a great option for those with limited space in their kitchen, as they are compact and take up less space than other single serve coffee maker-cup coffee makers, such as pour-over or drip.

They are smaller than k-cups, and a flat surface to allow them to fit in the basket that filters the machine. Unlike k-cups, coffee pods can be filled with whole beans. This is an important benefit for those who wish to limit the amount of coffee they brew, as well as those who prefer a stronger taste.

Brewing Options

There's a coffee machine for everyone, regardless of whether you prefer the convenience of pod brews like those from Keurig or Nespresso or prefer to choose your own beans and alter their strength. Most of these machines brew basic drip-style coffee, but some are able to make more elaborate drinks like lattes and cappuccinos.

This streamlined, eye-catching machine, made in the Netherlands since 1968 and available in a variety of sparkling colors, including pink and orange, was an easy-to-use high-quality appliance that can make your kitchen look stylish. We loved the fact that it brewed bright, rich coffee, and the audible brew cycle-finished tone can be switched off or on. We also liked the way the touchscreen panel is organized with clear icons that can be tapped to adjust the brewing settings. For instance, choosing the "BOLD" setting makes the brew stronger, while pressing the iced setting will turn on the cold-brew cycle.

While we weren't thrilled with the fact that it doesn't include an extra travel mug (advertised in the product images) we found the eight-ounce brew size to be perfect for a personal glass or a mug to use as a commuter. We also liked the fact that it can be programmed to 24 hours in advance.

While we were impressed by the visually appealing design and that this machine was simple to use, it took a bit longer than other models we've tested to assemble. This is due to the fact that you need to peel off a lot of stickers off and take out paper inserts. Additionally, the water tank is small and we discovered that it takes quite a while for it to fill up. This may not be a dealbreaker for some customers but it's important to consider when comparing a single cup machine to other models.

Water Reservoir

The reservoirs used by pod coffee machines vary in size. To save time, choose a larger reservoir if you drink a few cups of coffee per day. The majority of the models we tested had a removable tank and handles, making it easy to take it to the sink for filling. Others require you to measure the water yourself using a cup or a travel cup.

There are also single brew coffee coffee brewers that have a drawer for ground coffee and another for K-Cups or pre-packaged k-cups. These multi-use coffee makers offer the greatest range and flexibility among all coffee makers. They might cost a bit more than single-serve models.

Some single coffee brewers use an internal water pump to heat and pressurize water as it goes through a filter to brew. This is less expensive than the traditional drip machine, however it may result in a less flavorful cup of coffee. It is important to ensure that you don't use the water that's too hot, or it could cause damage to the internal workings of your coffee maker.

We also considered the possibility of adding milk frothers for latte making, and the ability to make an iced cup of tea or individual coffee brewer. Finally, we considered whether the machine was compatible with a Nespresso app, which lets you control your machine using your tablet or smartphone. While this can be handy but it's not a mandatory feature for most users.

It's not producing a cup that is as hot as other machines, but its compact size makes up for this.
