World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on armor, weapons and rings. Upgrades can also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.

If the template for upgrading a weapon ends in %, it will gain 3percent of its previous damage for each time it is upgraded.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components can be added to trinkets, weapons and armor to give them a stat boost or add a bonus effect. These can be obtained through crafting, purchasing from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment that has a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue before the component can be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once; they cannot be applied repeatedly or replaced with upgrades. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may include a suffix or prefix, modifying the name of the item to the upgrade (for instancethe "Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of the equipment with less Upgrade Crystals than is required to reach the same level of upgrade through normal methods.

A boost upgrade can alter the defense or attack properties of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades can be made using the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanical. They can also be dropped by enemies while upgrading other gear or purchasing them from the cash store for 500 upgrade crystals.

The player is able to have a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a better-quality version of the item will be available during the next reset. This gives players a reason to upgrade their gear even when they're not sure what will be improved after an update.

The process of upgrading an item could be expensive, and it is possible that the item will eventually become obsolete or even break if the upgrade is unsuccessful. Upgrade Crystals and assist powder are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. This is alleviated by the availability cash shop items to double or even eliminate chances of failure, as well as some upgrades that provide a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to upgrade the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, which includes any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded many ways, and we recommend getting them to level 15 as soon as you can.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is also known as "upping". Each upgradeable item comes with an amount that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items can be upgraded until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each item level requires various components, and upgrade costs increase with each level.

Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table, or obtained from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. When enough points have been earned you will be able to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an item is upgraded by a player it is replaced with a new item of the same type. This means that the same armor piece will get an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item comes with its own set of bonuses. This could be a disadvantage since the item may increase in price even if you don't require it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can roll the upgrade of their item. This causes the item to be exchanged for a brand new one, which will have a level 1 base and a totally different set of extra bonuses. This can be useful however it shouldn't be done often as it could waste resources.

Whenever an item upgrader mod is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from lowest to highest.
