1. IRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its i3 EVO sibling, the i3 EVO are the same robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent option for those looking for a an automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dust bin after it has filled up.

Both robots are adept in removing dirt and dust particles on hard floors and carpets and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home that help the i3+ navigate and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It may be stuck on power cords and socks and have trouble moving between different surfaces, like rug and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clean up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other clutter it might encounter. It is also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station, automatically emptying its debris into the station's dust bin and then resumes cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can make rooms more efficient maps using Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces types, including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin that eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. Once connected we were able to give the i7+ voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world full of vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households however, it can also fit in well next to the table for a coffee or shelves that you can spin around like a magic tool.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery which produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. The specialized head uses rigid nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets, and then pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours, and gives users easy access to two attachments and an Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over previous Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical and not a remarkable time to run a battery-powered cordless vac. It's still enough time to clean most of a home that's average size, but not quite long enough to clean every area (though an additional run-through often will suffice). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have a lot of money to spend on an expensive robot. It's capable of sucking up most debris types and sizes during our testing, and it often passes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front end helps it reach into corners and along the edges of walls which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it lacks the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top picks and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtration system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses, has more advanced automation abilities and can better maneuver its own. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, because it has a better battery life, can change its suction power mode manually and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and works better on both bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a wider array of features for automation.

In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86 percent of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's priced higher than other models we've tested and this could be a problem for some shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that you can access through the app. You can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to monitor your children or pets while you're away. The dustbin and the filter can be washed for a quick, painless clean-up.
