A robot vacuum will keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency with which you need to manually vacuum. Look for one that offers good navigation, can clean stairs and corners and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only periodically.

There are models that can mop and charge themselves This is an advantage that is essential for families with pets or children. A majority of the top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ a good option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but aren't afraid of taking the time to empty their robot's trash bin when it is full.

Both robots are good at picking up surface dirt on floors and carpets, and they can easily maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have test. It could get stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including getting rid of any toys or clutter it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter clean to prevent them from getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is depleted, it returns to the docking station, and it automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station's dust bin. Then it continues cleaning from where it began. The battery's lifespan is around an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It is self-charging and self-navigating, but the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This eliminates the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ is able to remember up to 10 automatic floor cleaner plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

In our testing the i7+ performed quicker and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though the dust bin is best self cleaning vacuum-emptying, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session, move itself around the room, and even vacuum an area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. Once connected we were able to use the i7+'s voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of cordless vacs that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model is an automobile. It's powerful and has features to replace a stand-up vacuum for many households, but it also fits perfectly next to the coffee table or shelves that you can spin around like a magic tool.

The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power that is not fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases fresh air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It can quickly change from handheld to floor vacuum robot vacuum, and vice versa.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours and provides easy access to two attachments as well as an clip for a wand. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons, which require a lengthy charge and are a pain to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. As CR's tests show, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical battery-powered vacuum's run time. This is still enough to clean most of a typical-sized best home vacuum cleaner however, it's not enough to get every single spot (though the second time around usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's light and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robotic floor vacuums. It was able to remove the majority of types of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area many times for an extensive clean. Its flat front end helps it to reach into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice addition.

Its intelligent navigation system makes use of iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our Top Rated Robot Vacuum picks, the i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't as sturdy, and often will run out of battery before making it back to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower recurring cost and has more advanced automation capabilities and is able to better move itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for a variety of purposes, because it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter the suction power mode by hand, comes with physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and works better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while offering a wider range of automation options.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of home electronics So it's no surprise that they're one of the most reputable mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization, docking frequency settings, and more. The app is simple to navigate and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests in our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we tried, which might be a deal-breaker for some buyers.

The app lets you access the camera onboard of the smart vacuum. You can also set up live streaming from the robot's cleaning area. This feature allows you to keep track of your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that self-empties and helps keep the robot's dustbin clean and optimizes suction power for each cleaning run.

Black and Decker robots have been designed specifically for hard flooring. They come with a wide cleaning path and a larger dustbin that holds 2X more debris than other models to keep the cleaning area clear for maximum runtime. Plus, they include two side sweepers that clean around edges and corners. The POWERSERIES model comes with AutoSense that automatically adjusts the power level based on whether it is picking up dirt on the surface or embedded dirt. It also has a smart app that lets you see the virtual map and manage functions and schedules. You can also monitor the vacuum's battery status and return it to its dock for charging by pressing one button. The app allows you to modify the LEDs on the top of the vacuum to discern where it is focusing or if it has gotten stuck.

The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually, if necessary. My living room rug for instance is darkly colored that can trip up some other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as an incline. The ability to create a weekly cleaning schedule is a great time-saving convenience.
