1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, created by Milan-based company Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with the latest technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping them into a puck, to making milk into a texturing process and dispenses the correct amount of coffee - meaning you can make barista-quality hot drinks by pressing a button.
The machine also sports a stylish brushed aluminium front and comes in a choice of black, red or taupe, which means it's easy to integrate into most kitchen designs. It's not without its shortcomings however, as most reviewers found it a little expensive for a bean to cup maker (and it doesn't come with an insulated milk pitcher).
There were numerous glowing reviews about the machine's user-friendliness and the quality of the coffee. The digital display gives information and step-bystep instructions throughout the entire process of brewing, helping you to perfect your drink each time. It will even prompt you to adjust the grind size if not quite right. It's almost like having a personal barista at home (minus Harry Potter's cloak of invisibility and Elon Musk's rocket-building expertise).
If you prefer milky drinks this model comes with an adjustable steam wand that can be adjusted up and down to accommodate the majority of drinking vessels that aren't equipped with the drinking horn of Vikings. We were impressed by the speed and efficiency of the frothing process, as well. It makes an excellent, full-flavoured, delicious espresso with a great crema.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder. It's quiet and efficient, and is a great value with its current price of PS499. The only problem is that it doesn't provide the same level of customization like other bean to.cup coffee-to-cup machines we have examined. It comes with a 15 bar pump rather than the more common 19 bar, which isn't as good for making high-quality espressos. However it's a great machine to make coffee for those who like their coffee strong and dark.
