Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in an increase in the linearity of a given stat.
Players can recycle up to six items at once to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling a piece of equipment increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to increase the stats on your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished through a variety of methods through the use of upgrade components or by increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. Many items can also be reforged in order to increase their value.
Upgradeable items are available in the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. The most common method of upgrading equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are items that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with upgrade slots, and many require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others provide an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade elements available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments can be placed on any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools and offer numerous bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing additional crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory, then open the upgrade item window. The preview will be displayed on the right-hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. If you don't have enough of either, the Upgrade button will show as Blocked.
The amount of upgrade components required for a specific item is displayed in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but it can be reduced using many different ways, such as purchasing upgrades at a merchant or trading them to other players.
Most weapons can be improved with a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be improved with the suffix. These upgrades change the name of the item and add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor vigor.' The exceptions are the non-inscribable wands, the shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any kinds of mods in any way.
Glyphs
Glyphs can be used to convey information via visuals. They animate to capture the viewer's attention and spur interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, which makes them more effective at conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also evoke a sense of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase a stat's value by a certain range. This is displayed on the item's page when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the actual amount by the glyph can increase the stat, but rather the maximum amount it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the quality and tier of the item you're in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can transfer the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
If you are looking to remove the glyph from an item, you will need to salvage it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed that it was installed in but you will be able to salvage the upgraded item with the glyph and its fragments, so this should not be considered as a loss.
Adding a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory once you remove the item. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to give it a bonus. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and then deal it out slowly rather than all at one time. This is helpful for players who take a lot of damage from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens allow players to alter the affixes on their equipment and weapons, and can be found through a variety of methods such as in mistery boxes or as rare drops from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll token grants the player a brand new random affix, which is usually better than the original one. Reroll tokens are also a great way to reroll weapon stats and can be upgraded to increase damage or other perks.
Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for upgrade options, but they can be upgraded. When you press the "upgrade button" you can recycle these items that have been rerolled. This will alter the appearance of the window for the item, and allow up to six items be selected to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the item's rarity as well as its own level, so items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower-level ones.
Players can also make use of Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits to upgrade units. Rerolls will determine the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded, and if it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is a great option to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware that the total ilvl will be reduced by the number rerolls it took to get it to the final level. This effect is most evident on Diadems and Rings, because they are the only options to increase the ilvl.
Players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It's better to allow people to pay for it with cash or food items, which will allow players to make changes to their builds without having to spend excessive amounts of time. However paying for rerolls is not something the developers want to implement at this time in the game's development. They're planning to include a potion that will allow players to change their race in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to boost the value of an item upgrade. The first is to increase the amount of upgrade, which increases the value of an upgrade for a given stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of an upgrade item, which boosts the healing or damage for the stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. When this is done, the new item will maintain its iLevel however it will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded type of item.
It is crucial to keep in mind that upgrades can be random. In the majority of cases, a better roll is determined by glyphs. However there are occasions where a higher or more special roll may occur. The type of the item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a rare or exclusive item to a specific item type, it's likely to gaining an upper level.
The cost of upgrading items can be expensive especially when you're upgrading an item of equipment from a standard to legendary track. The price will be based on the item upgrades's base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it has. In addition, some upgrade tracks require crests to reach the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will reach the maximum level of its upgrade track and gain a bonus effect. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level however. Generally speaking, the upgrade effect is increased by a number of +3.
Depending on the item's level of base and upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will also change. For instance, an item that is upgraded from being a rare or exclusive item to an extraordinary one can be expected to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
