Whether you're looking for a buggy run with or just a stroller that can be used for neighbourhood walks, three wheeled buggies offer great mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to manoeuvre even in tight areas.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres and look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

New figures show that three-wheeled buggies, the symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in rapid decline. Four-wheelers are replacing them, and are more versatile and easy to drive, while also looking stylish.

The bigger the wheels are, the more your buggy will be able to deal with bumpy surfaces and uneven pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear allow you to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or in difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy on a newborn baby and a toddler and found it to be extremely sturdy. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said it felt solid to push and very stable on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped regularly, have built-in suspension. This was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. You will want it to be big enough for your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline so that they can lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies have the option of lying flat, which allows your child to lie flat and face you, whereas others only permit a parent-facing option.

A great option for those who want to tackle off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child as early as birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for babies and toddlers until age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness and a spacious cushioned seat. Storage options are also good with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and an attractive pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels will give your buggy greater stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also help you move the pushchair around tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that help you navigate around tight corners, while others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to increase the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you hit the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.

Many strollers 3 wheels wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres, which means they are able to handle a variety of terrains and are more flexible than 4-wheeler. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and the Venicci Carbo lux are some of our favourite 3 wheel stroller and car seat-wheelers. Both buggies feature larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on gravel tracks, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to easily move up and down kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

The drawback of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to use it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow while on the move. Most models come with small folding options that let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.

Easy to maneuver

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with a child. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels spin on a dime and are really easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheel all terrain pushchair wheeler with her newborn and toddler and said: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain, with the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by the way it handled kerbs, especially when using the hand-operated brake. It was very stable for descending or on uneven terrain."

The only downside to this great maneuverability, is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheeled strollers wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something you need to be aware of when your home is a city. If this is a problem then a 4-wheel buggy may be a better choice for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars are the ideal method to protect your little one from scrapes and bumps when out and out and about. They are easy to put in place and will make your child feel secure and safe out and about.

Created to match the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar is a soft and cushioned surface that offers a comfortable place for your child to hold on to while walking. The durable construction and sturdy design will ensure that your child can take a stroll around town without fearing of falling out of the buggy or leaning too far forward.

The fabric sling seat sits in the frame, snugly rather than sitting on top like modular seats do, providing the lowest center of gravity at the right height for your infant and also providing excellent weight distribution for easy kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push the buggy up and over the curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath said it's great on grass and cobbles. It's also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres as well as a the lockable swivel wheel.

With a sophisticated and stylish appearance This bumper bar is sure to draw attention wherever you go. It's available in a range of colours and finishes to match your personal style. It comes with a simple quick-release mechanism that makes it simple to install and remove the bumper bar whenever needed. The bumper bar is easy to clean since it is made of sturdy materials. This makes it a great choice for families who want an attractive and secure accessory for their stroller.

Comfort

A 3 wheel twin stroller-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle to maneuver and performance. With the perfect geometry and weight distribution, this kind of buggy is able to turn on a dime and be easy to steer with one hand. All Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.

The clever design of the Sport places the fabric sling seat inside the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This allows it to have lower center of gravity which means it's easier to push, has a less weighty curb-pop (you won't need to exert much effort to push the buggy's front end over the curb) and also provides greater stability and balance. With the massive rear wheels that measure 16 inches and lockable swivel front wheels and air filled tyres that only require occasional pumping to give you an unhurried ride on rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog too.

The only stroller in our collection with an adult-facing seat that can also accommodate an infant car seat or carrycot, you are able to make sure your family is prepared for every adventure - from the very first day, and for years to be!

Kath the MFM reviewer, also loved the roominess of the buggy. There's a nimble large, spacious basket that's surprising spacious for a vehicle that's this big. Additionally, there's a handy pouch on the back seat unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets under the hood where you can keep your phone and keys.
