WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and is accessible at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded, but will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Upgrades are useful items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners for various currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which will display an item's preview at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Upgraders for items are available in a variety of locations including the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases with the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Crests

The most basic and straightforward upgrade items process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through working through content at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities, or by taking on dungeons and raids of any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. Once a piece of gear has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
