1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek compact and striking machine, created by the Milan-based firm Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with cutting-edge technology. This machine handles all stages of the best coffee machine bean to cup-making process from grinding beans to the tamping of a puck and making milk into a texturing, before dispensing the right amount.
The machine also sports an elegant brushed aluminium front and is available in a choice of red, black or taupe, so it's a great fit for most kitchen designs. The machine is not without flaws however. Many reviewers felt that it was quite expensive for a cup to bean maker (and it doesn't come with an ice cube).
However, there were numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of use of this machine. The user-friendly digital display offers the step-by-step instructions and feedback throughout the entire making process, allowing you to improve your coffee every time. The machine even allows you to alter the size of the grind, in case that's not what you would like to do. This model is ideal for those who like milky drinks. The steam wand is adjustable up and down to fit most drinking vessels, with the exception of Viking drinking horns. We were impressed by the speed and effectiveness of the frothing process, too. It produces a delicious, full-flavoured espresso with a fantastic crema.
The BCC02 is a fantastic all-rounder, quiet and efficient and provides great value for money, especially at its current price of PS499. The only drawback is that it doesn't offer the same level of customisation as some of the other bean to cups we've tested. It has a pump that is 15 bars rather than the standard 19 bars. This isn't as effective for making high-quality espressos. This is a great machine for those who like their coffee bean coffee machine strong and dark. Click here to view Lavazza's great deal.
