The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost which boosts the robot's power when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it clean quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors They are also adept at cleaning dog hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good robot vacuum deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save money. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to clean the mopping pad, it can be swapped for one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30

The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is similar to other models.

The flex arm can be used to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing with a little more noise and a little more cost it's a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have number of furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job cleaning, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to getting caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
