However unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we evaluated, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles, so it may get stuck on things such as socks or power cords, and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it may come across. You should also keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest technology. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and lowers the cost of recurring maintenance.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and move around the room, and even vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to speak commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like a sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in many households and can fit in well next to a coffee table or on shelves that you can spin around like the magic device.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide fade-free power for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized cleaning head drives bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to suck up large particles and fine dust. It comes with three suction modes to meet the task at hand. It is able to quickly switch between handheld and floor vacuum, and vice versa.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in around 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments as well as the clip for a wand. This is a major improvement over older Dysons that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its claims to run up to 60 minutes are not true. This is a typical not an extraordinary time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is enough time to sweep a typical-sized home but not enough to get into every corner. (A second run generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums the 694 is an best affordable robot vacuum model that's an excellent choice for people who don't wish to spend too much on a robotic vacuum cleaner deals. It's capable of sucking up all kinds of debris in our tests, and often passes over the same areas several times to ensure a thorough clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it's not equipped with the ability to map that comes with more sophisticated models such as our top picks, the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its original location.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects in that it has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and charges quicker.

The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also has physical boundaries strips that can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It is also more durable and has a stronger motor, and works better on floors that are bare and carpets with low pile, while providing a wider array of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a well-known brand in the field of home electronics. It's not surprising, then, that they are also among the top manufacturers of bagless robot vacuum vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has an advanced onboard technology that allows to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner. These include mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and much more. The app is easy to learn and use, just like other Samsung devices.

In our testing of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller objects like cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a little more expensive than the other models we tested and could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The app allows you to access the onboard camera of the smart vacuum. You can also create live streaming from the robot's area of cleaning.
