Evolution Korea
For a long time the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with the creationists, fearing that doing so could boost the credibility of the group. The silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the change in genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes or even whole genomes. These changes can, over generations result in the development of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how individuals with traits that are advantageous can reproduce faster and longer than those with less favorable traits. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the creation and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" comes from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing. However, the concept has had a variety of meanings as it has taken form in the fields of science and other fields. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather), believed that existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint Hilaire, to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species evolve into other species in an orderly and predictable manner.
Recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living creatures develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or the ability to produce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. This change in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, can't be considered to be evolutionary because they aren't passed on to the next generation.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial in spite of the fact that it has been proven true by thousands of scientific tests and that it has stood the test of time. They claim that the theory shouldn't be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their campaign to exclude evolution from high-school textbooks, including the removal of any mention of the evolutionary origins of humans and the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur thought to be an ancestral bird's parent.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also a foundation of biology, and aids scientists to comprehend how living organisms operate and grow. Evolution also helps us understand the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution to better understand nature and make useful discoveries such as new drugs.
The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains so much about the universe and life on earth, and it has been rigorously tested and confirmed over many years. Many people, including religious leaders, support the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religious beliefs, since the theory deals only with things, events and processes in the physical world.
In fact many religious individuals have come up with ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. Certain Christians, for example, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans have an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is important that science educators advocate for the teaching evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution is growing. In the United States, 에볼루션 efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbook content on the evolutionary history of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is vital to remember, however, that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a broad variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. This belief is based on a variety of reasons. Some scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries, such as developing treatments, while others are motivated by a desire to improve animal and plant species, usually to benefit humans. Some scientists are just curious, while others hold a a strong religious belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken seriously. Although not all creationists are Christian, many are. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The most common kind of creationist is called the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the way that is described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal, and that the universe and life on Earth started only recently.
OECs may be less known, 에볼루션 코리아 but their beliefs are just as passionate like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, 에볼루션 룰렛 and that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life came to be on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the scientists who founded modern science eschewed miracles for fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists are able to accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and call their belief "theistic evolution." It is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." The theory suggests that God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species similar to the original.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, known as the Great Flood. They believe that all species were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view as do the American Anthropological Association and 에볼루션 무료체험 코리아 (Ceshi.Xyhero.Com) the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow evolution and creationism to be included in their curricula.
What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. Publishers of high school textbooks have recently announced that they will eliminate references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this drive. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks examples of the evolution and ancestor of an bird, the Archeopteryx. It is now focusing on removing excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research as well as on human evolution, too.
STR claims to have the support of 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. It also hopes to combat the influence of American creationists in the United States. A survey of undergraduates studying biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The causes are not evident, but they could be due to religion or the absence of creation scientists in the US.
The KACR has accomplished a lot in the past through lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly journal called Creation and a book. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences that has an evolutionary perspective that has sparked interest among college students. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught until today.
On August 7 and 8, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from the world, 에볼루션 바카라 including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
