How to Replace an audi keys replacement cost G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via an uncolored wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu has to know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and could indicate the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It is a little tricky to test since there are various pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The best method for doing this is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is fully operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at maximum speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine was running out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I start the engine without sparks, I put a piece of tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays closed. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it runs fine with the G28 connected. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of that is -49c even after unplugging it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. It is easy to find a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is easy to test them - just switch your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To accomplish this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. The good thing is that they are quite affordable and easy to find particularly when you're looking at the Bosch model, like ours. Alternatively, GM's version of this component is an option.

5. Tachometer

A damaged engine sensor could cause a variety of issues in your car. It's an essential component of your replacement audi key cost's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to malfunction and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig, and boost, and also transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.
