Private ADHD Titration

There is a national shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increase in demand worldwide.

Our service is private ADHD treatment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

titration for adhd

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a thorough assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history and an assessment using the typical adhd titration waiting list questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial in your case. This will happen at your follow up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by telephone). Your physician will explain to you the various options for medication and, if you decide to start on medication we will recommend titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process could take several weeks and requires gradually altering your child’s medication until the proper balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to titrate as high as three different medicines until you discover the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. It is crucial that parents participate in the titration process and keep an eye out for their child's behavior so they can let the doctors know whether the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

top-doctors-logo.pngIf you decide to return to NHS care, your medication will be provided with an individual prescription that you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also mandatory.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted by video conference using zoom. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible to have an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dosage and any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost of these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

The doctor will also ask you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be having or other mental health problems that you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, so it's important to assess your family background to determine if you're at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

During this examination, it is essential to be truthful and honest with your doctor, as they will use the information you provide to determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial part of the process, because if you don't do it, it could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you have decided that you would like to be treated for your adhd medication titration, we will then arrange a follow up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this field. This can be done at the time of your diagnosis if want to start treatment right away or within two weeks if prefer to take time to consider the implications of your diagnosis and the options available to you.

We suggest that if you are unsure of your preferences, you talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Certain providers have different policies regarding whether or not they require an GP letter. Find out if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a medication prescription.

Medication

For many people who seek an official diagnosis of ADHD medication is a crucial aspect of their journey. Getting prescriptions from an NHS psychiatrist can be a challenge and lengthy. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

Requesting your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry UK and ADHD 360). You can pick a provider that offers an assessment that is private and titration. This will cut down your waiting time significantly and is more convenient when you are working and have a full schedule.

Once you've been diagnosed, your doctor will assess you to determine if you need medication adjustment. You'll need to complete forms that differ by provider, but the most common ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories going back to childhood and adulthood. They will help your physician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are on a titration medication, this will usually include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant medications. These will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration procedure can be lengthy and may require a number of additional appointments before your dose is stable.

coe-2023.pngDepending on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure that you are stable with the medication, document any adverse reactions you have experienced and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a regular health check, which could include blood pressure and pulse readings, as well as weight and weight measurements and an annual review.

For some people it could be because they are happy with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration. For those who require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it's possible to be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. In this case the titration is included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be given via the private prescription. It could cost more than an NHS prescription since the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
